Rice Paper Scissors has just opened a sister venue called Rice Paper Sister. Located at 15 Hardware Lane, just off Bourke St in the CBD, Rice Paper Sister offers a South East Asian hawker dining and bar experience and takes the same approach as its older sister - expect fresh, organically sourced ingredients and an inviting atmosphere.
The diverse food and cocktail menu allows you to choose your own dining experience. Offering a range of traditional and more modern dishes, there truly is something for everyone.
Our top picks from the menu include the Wok Tossed Port Philip Calamari - tender ribbons of calamari are wok tossed in a smoky and fiery red sambal belacan sauce which is simply fully of flavour.
For something a little left of centre, and equally as delicious, the grilled wagyu 9+ beef served with seriously decadent Filipino burnt coconut sauce, pickled shallots and grilled milk bread is sheer pleasure.
For mains the Babi Guling transports us to Bali. While this is a more sophisticated version, the flavours pack a punch. We loved the perfect crackling, the tender morsels of Suckling Pig and the accompanying Lawar young jackfruit salad and flaky roti. Just yum!
For something heartier, the Cambodian beef short ribs are a stunner. Think melt in your mouth falling off the bone ribs which have been slow cooked in young coconut juice for hours and served with a sticky sauce, lettuce wraps and herbs.
Desserts continue to excite at Rice Paper Sister. We loved the cheekily named dessert, "the forest floor" which is a stunning plate of sweet tofu, chocolate log and coconut chocolate soil, mandarin sorbet. It's almost too pretty to eat.
