The new Cecconi’s winter menu, exudes elegance and simplicity and looks to secure the restaurant’s place in the upper echelon of Melbourne’s culinary institutions.
We were pleased to be taken through a 9 course degustation menu which showcased revitalized Italian classics in a contemporary style following the La Cucina rivisitata movement in Italy which acknowledges the simplicity of the flavour combinations to be the focal point.
To start we adored the Slow cooked octopus. The octopus was incredibly tender while retaining a robust structure courtesy of being expertly cooked. The accompanying grilled cotechino sausage, salsa verde, mustard fruits delivered a wonderful salinity whilst enhancing the flavours of the octopus.
The Butternut pumpkin risotto was as expected, superbly executed. The rice in the risotto was puffy and al-dente and, coupled with tender morsels of sweet pumpkin and crispy crushed amaretti biscuits had a wonderful depth of flavour.
For mains, the Silver Dory in particular delighted. The flesh was extremely delicate and communicated the natural flavour of the gloriously fresh Silver Dory with the radish agrodolce and the luxurious crustacean dressing tying the whole dish together. It was a beautiful.
Continuing the trend for the evening, the desserts were delicious. We recommend ending your dining journey at Cecconi's with the Italian doughnuts. These golden puffs were stunning. Ethereal in texture, the doughnuts were served with luxurious white chocolate banana cheesecake cream and a wonderfully tart passionfruit gelato which when eaten together was sheer heaven.
Cecconi's continues to be one of the city's most attractive propositions and we cannot wait to return.
