Chapel Street’s iconic Oriental Teahouse needs little introduction. Tea and yum cha are the focus here and boy do they do it well.
The food menu comprises a selection of delectable dishes perfect for sharing over libations.
We were delighted by the tasty selection of delectable dim sum. While many Chinese restaurants in Melbourne serve dim sum, the variety served at Oriental Teahouse are a cut above. Each dumpling has gracefully delicate pastry skin enveloping rich and tasty fillings. Our top pick is the prawn, shallot, wood ear mushroom, sesame and bamboo dumplings. Featuring slippery and delicate wonton skins, these dumplings are an absolutely flavour bomb and served in a sea of umami-laden spring onion dressing. Simply yum!
The restaurant also serves top notch plant based plates to cater for vegetarian friends. The House Made Tofu is sensational. It is a stunning amalgamation of mellow tofu and mixed mushrooms flavoured with Szechuan spices. This one will delight both carnivores and herbivores alike. Another must-try is the chicken ribs. Crispy and were flavoured well it is beer food at its best.
For dessert, Oriental Teahouse's signature white chocolate dumplings hit the spot - gooey on the outside with a luscious white chocolate centre.
On the drinks front, Oriental Teahousee impresses with an amazing selection of teas alongside craft beers, cocktails as well as a concise, considered and well-priced wine list.
