Tavlin seeks to impress with the flavours of Tel Aviv. And that, it certainly does.
Staying true to the street style of dining, Tavlin’s menu is designed to share with a selection of small and medium plates designed by owner and chef Adi Daboush, whose career in hospitality spans a lifetime. The menu is a contemporary take on family recipes brought from Damascus, Tripoli and Tel Aviv which takes inspiration from his travels through the Middle East, South, Central and North America, Europe and Asia.
We loved tasting our way through the menu. The best way to enjoy Tavlin is to opt for the "Mesibah" where the chef feeds you with a delicious banquet and you just sit back and enjoy.
Everything is homemade here, from the dips to the bread to the kibbeh. And it really makes a difference. The laffa was wonderfully fluffy and worked wonders with the iconic Tavlin hummus (which is some of the best we have ever had).
The Moroccan beef cigars were delicious. Biting through the delicate, incredibly thin filo pastry, our taste buds were greeted with a flavoursome concoction of beautiful "melt in your mouth" beef seasoned with a variety of spices.
The falafels were yet another showstopper. Featuring a crispy exterior, these crispy chickpea and herb patties were stunning and went beautifully with tahini sauce and a moreish mango chutney. Just yum.
For mains, the marinated and juicy meats cooked on a grill satisfy - Wonderfully tender and full of flavour. The chicken schnitzel is similarly delicious. Think juicy chicken breast with the most perfect crumb.
Pleasing to both the eyes and palate, the dessert platter was a wonderfully sweet end to our visit. An exemplary display of Tavlin's versatility. The malabi was an absolute crowd pleaser - a beautiful melt in your mouth rosewater milk pudding served with rose syrup and toasted pistachios. Another highlight was the Turkish delight ice cream which boasted a gooey decadent texture.
Tavlin is certainly a feast for the senses.
