The Boot Factory

Nestled in the grounds of the old Pentridge Prison in Coburg, The Boot Factory café is a wonderfully welcoming café perfect for brunching with friends or with the whole family.

The building it houses dates back to the 1850s and was the place where well behaved prisoners made shoes and boots for the prison guards. The café retains all its orginal features which makes it quite an iconic space.

The menu features an array of hand made food - all made with love using seasonal produce. For something light and healthy, we recommend the Wild rice and grain salad with poached chicken. This is a stunning amalgamation of flavours and includes a wholesome mix of spinach, currants, pomegranate, Danish feta and toasted almonds, all brought together by a beautiful honey sumac yoghurt.

Perfect for this winter cold is the Slow braised beef cheek. Think melt in your mouth morsels of beef served with a luxurious horseradish cauliflower puree and heirloom carrots. It is comfort food at its best.

Whatever you do, do not leave without trying the café's famous Apple crumble ricotta hot cake. An absolute stand out, the hot cake was beautifully moist on the inside with a slightly crispy exterior and was the perfect canvas for the moreish apple compote, decadent vanilla bean mascarpone and house made crumble. Simply stunning!
