Mama Rumaan

Meet Mama Rumaan, a fierce Arabic mama who has taken up residence on Central Pier, Docklands. Causing disruption in the tranquil, waterfront suburb, Mama Rumaan has rebelled against the norm with the creation of her Middle-Eastern style canteen. Bold, flavourful and authentic is the way they play it here and boy does it work.

To start we enjoyed a selection of mezzes which were each absolutely delicious. The lamb cigar was crisp on the outside and filled with moreish juicy meat on the inside, the sausages were full of flavour, the falafels were aromatic and fluffy. We also particularly enjoyed the dips (hoummos, baba ganoush and labneh) – each wonderfully luxurious and perfectly seasoned.

For the main affair the Qouzi was one decadent plate. This baby was filled to the brim with melt in your mouth morsels of slow cooked lamb shoulder intertwined amongst traditional herbs and spices, cracked wheat, chickpeas and juicy pomegranate arils. This was one luxurious dish which is an absolute must-have.

Our dessert time at Mama Rumaan was beautifully traditional – flaky baklava and gooey Turkish delight concluded our visit on a sweet high.

With a welcoming ambience and delicious food that is designed to be shared as you would amongst family, Mama Rumaan’s is definitely worth a visit. You will come hungry but in true mama style you will leave completely satisfied.
