Son In Law

Son in Law embodies the vibrancy of Collingwood through its bright, bold and energetic food offerings and design.

Many years on, the venue continues to be one of our favourite Thai restaurants with a compelling menu of contemporary street food that pays homage to traditional flavours and ingredients.

To start, the dish of battered tiger prawns showcased a multitude of intense flavours and was highlighted by the perfectly crispy prawns and the gentle heat of the chilli jam.  

To follow, we enjoyed the roast duck bao. Tried and true flavour combinations of cucumber, coriander and hoisin sauce, alongside a slice of tender roast duck really hit the mark.

For mains, we could not resist getting a bowl of Son in Law’s ever popular Green Curry. The curry was beautiful and showed balance and style, with an appetising level of chilli power. The broth was luxurious, incredibly flavoursome and exhibited a marvellous aromatic lift. 

For something equally as delicious but lighter, we recommend the steamed barramundi fillet cooked with wild ginger, mushroom, choy sum, onion and light soy sauce - A wonderfully simple dish that allowed the natural subtle sweetness of the fish to be enjoyed.

For dessert the new “House made magic ball with crepe cake” is a super cute and delicious way to conclude your meal. What you receive is the cutest chocolate dome shaped into cute cartoon face which encases a Thai crepe cake (with your choice of flavour). You then choose your choice of thick steamy pouring liquid (milo, matcha or Thai milk tea) which you get to pour onto the dome, thus revealing the hidden crepe cake. It’s full of theatre and fun and most importantly, YUM! 

If you want to explode with cuteness, perhaps pair your dessert with the fairy floss and soda drink. The fairy floss is shaped into the cutest cartoon faces (we even spotted Doraemon’s face being made!).

Son in Law is a gem of a place for casual dining. With its superb execution of Modern Thai cuisine and affordable pricing, Son in Law continues to please. Expect fresh, fun and authentic Thai food by Thai people in a relaxed, laidback atmosphere.
