Yung Kee

The iconic Yung Kee located in the heart of Central Hong Kong needs no introduction. Known for its stunning roast meats, this eatery has been in existence since 1942 and has been pleasing patrons ever since.

Located over several levels, the restaurant offers a range of dining experiences ranging from a casual shared table set up on the first floor with open kitchens to a fine dining experience with gold plated ornaments and exquisite art work on the second floor.

We loved tasting our way through the menu. The signature charcoal roasted goose was an absolute highlight. Yung Kee is an  expert when it comes to the disk. Only black-haired geese of the “right” size are chosen for the restaurant. The goose is cooked on charcoal (this delivers its dark red colour and intense aroma), then it is rested and then chopped into exactly 72 bite-sized pieces.

The equally famous roasted suckling pig was similarly delicious and boasted the most amazing crackling we have ever tasted.

Another must-have is the dish of deep fried prawn with mini crab roe. Think wonderfully juicy and large prawns cooked to perfection with a beautiful crab roe glaze which delivers an addictive salinity.

When it comes to wonton noodle soups, Yung Kee certainly know what they are doing. The soup is next level – very fragrant and very flavoursome and the wontons are beautifully delicate and delicious.

If you’re in Hong Kong, make sure you pay Yung Kee a visit. Your tastebuds will thank you.
