SENSE

SENSE Restaurant is a truly exquisite Athens rooftop restaurant with breathtaking views of the Acropolis.

After you have a moment to catch your breath, you notice the amazing ambience within the restaurant. We recommend you enjoy a table in the outdoor seating area which is enveloped by a verdant herb garden with climbing vines which all conspire to create an impossibly romantic mood, as well as the sense of being in another time and space. The service at SENSE is world class. The dining room is marshalled by excellent service staff, notably our sommelier who was exceedingly knowledgeable, friendly and made selection of the perfect wines seamless.

The outstanding vistas are perfectly matched by the gastronomical offering. The kitchen is headed by Chef Alexandros Charalambopoulos who has created a mesmerising menu that heroes Grecian flavours and produce but executed in a thoroughly modern and refined manner.

We opted to try the degustation menu, a decision we did not come to regret. Course after course flowed in perfect symphony. Everything was meticulously executed and was just a sheer delight to indulge in.

We were privileged to indulge in a 7 course menu specially curated by Alexandros in order to get a fuller understanding of his style.

An interesting amuse bouche with bites inspired from all over Greece commenced our culinary experience. These were presented on a platter with the Greek map etched to it - a playful and delicious way to start the meal.

Other highlights from our dinner included the thoroughly modern interpretation of a Greek salad. This was an exciting dish bursting with flavours and various textures. It was a stunning amalgamation of Volaki cheese from Tinos island, liquid spheres of roasted tomato, cucumber pickle, olive rusk, aged vinegar, capers and sea fennel

For mains, the Red Mullet “a la Spetsiota” was heavenly. Perfectly cooked and exceedingly fresh red mullet and scallop were served alongside a creamy potato emulsion, parsley puree, Spetsiota sauce, garlic foam and roasted tomato. It was a restrained and elegant dish that allowed the natural sweetness of the seafood to shine.

Our favourite course of the evening graced our presence next – the Pastitsio. Rolls of al dente and slippery pasta encased melt in your mouth oxtail and spices and was finished with decadent shavings of black truffle, rich mushroom cream, goat’s milk béchamel sauce and Naxos island “Arseniko” cheese. It was a hearty dish that was like a hug from yia-yia yet utterly refined.

Dessert time at SENSE continued to please. Think Lefkas Island Sponge Cake with Cherry soup with bitter almond, mastic ice-cream, red fruit as well as a celebration of chocolate featuring bitter chocolate terrine made from 72% dark chocolate, white chocolate cream made from 34% dark chocolate and a milk chocolate semifreddo from 41% dark chocolate with Aegina island pistachios

SENSE presents wonderfully refined, skilfully crafted contemporary cuisine against the breathtaking backdrop of the imposing Acropolis. Combined with wonderfully attentive but unobtrusive service, SENSE is very highly recommended.
