The Sweet Meadow Echuca

Tucked away in the heart of Echuca, The Sweet Meadow is the kind of café that instantly makes you slow down and settle in. With its warm, earthy interiors, leafy touches and philosophy centred around wholesome plant-based living, brunch here feels less like a quick meal and more like a nourishing ritual.

As a fully vegetarian café, The Sweet Meadow champions the idea that food should energise and sustain, with a menu built around fresh produce, mindful cooking and seasonal ingredients. Yet despite its wellness focus, the café never feels preachy or restrictive. Instead, it strikes a beautiful balance between health-conscious dining and genuinely satisfying comfort food.

One standout dish during our visit was the Meadow Greens— a vibrant plate of sautéed green vegetables piled generously onto garlic sourdough. Simple in concept but beautifully executed, it celebrated fresh produce in a way that felt hearty and deeply comforting rather than overly virtuous. It’s the kind of dish that leaves you feeling refreshed without sacrificing flavour.

Equally memorable was the housemade gnocchi, pan-fried until golden and tossed with red onion, garlic butter, sundried tomatoes, spinach and basil pesto, before being finished with pangrattato and almond feta. Rich, fragrant and wonderfully textural, the dish showcased just how creative and satisfying vegetarian cooking can be when treated with care and confidence.

For those leaning towards something sweeter, the banana and buckwheat pancakes delivered a beautifully indulgent brunch moment. Served with berry compote, white chocolate and macadamia crumb, housemade ice-cream and maple syrup, the pancakes managed to feel decadent while still maintaining the café’s wholesome ethos thanks to the nutty buckwheat base and balanced sweetness.

No brunch at The Sweet Meadow would be complete without coffee, and the café proudly pours Allpress Espresso. The smooth, full-bodied coffee paired perfectly with brunch, and we loved the extensive milk options available, from Bonsoy and oat to macadamia, coconut and almond milk. It’s a thoughtful touch that reflects the café’s inclusive and sustainability-focused approach.

More than just a café, The Sweet Meadow embodies a slower, more mindful style of dining. Whether you’re a dedicated plant-based eater or simply looking for a fresh and nourishing brunch while exploring Echuca, this charming café offers a refreshing reminder that wholesome food can still feel generous, comforting and full of joy.
