The Victory Hotel

Victory Hotel Restaurant

Boasting panoramic views over Sellicks Beach and Aldinga Bay, The Victory Hotel is a highly regarded gastropub that serves delicious, well-executed Modern Australian cuisine alongside an astounding wine list that you have to see to believe.

Before your meal, we highly suggest you have a browse through the cellar and pick a bottle (or two) to have with your delicious meal. The Victory Hotel just so happens to boast a cellar containing one of the most comprehensive and varied wine collections in Australia and includes a great list of local and Burgundian wines (many of which are rare and eye wateringly valuable). The best part is, The Victory has self-contained cottages for hire - so its just a short 100 metres stroll from the pub after dinner (more about that later…).

To start, the Saffron tagliatelle pleased. Al dente tagliatelle paired beautifully with freshly sautéed Goolwa pippis, chilli, onion, garlic, baby spinach and herbs.

The chicken, lime leaf and coriander spring rolls were similarly delightful. Crispy on the outside and perfectly accompanied by aromatic chilli sambal.

The mains at The Victory are excellent. The Smoked lamb rack with prosciutto wrapped roast peach, cauliflower puree, pearl barley salad, green beans and jus was a well made dish that was thoroughly enjoyable. The lamb was moist and very flavoursome.

An absolute highlight of our evening, the Beaumont grain fed 220g eye fillet was stunning. Like most high-quality cuts, it was best cooked rare to medium. Displaying a mastery in the manner the steak were cooked, the steak was cooked perfectly from end to end. A light searing ensured that the steak was lined with a thin crisp layer packed with caramelised beef flavour.

For the sweet tooth, a look at their rotating dessert specials is a must. Think heavenly banana parfait, cocoa crumbs, peanut butter icecream and pistachio praline and melt-in-your-mouth vanilla pannacotta with fresh Mt. Compass strawberries, strawberry sorbet and jam.

The Victory Hotel delivers fare which elevates it above traditional gastropubs. Its dishes are superbly executed, well flavoured and highlighted by the underlying quality of ingredients. Under the care and guidance  of passionate owner, Doug Govan, The Victory Hotel epitomises what a gastropub should be - a well run establishment that delivers consistent, simple and flavoursome food with mouth-watering flair.

B&B Cottages

After dinner, a stay at one of the Victory Hotel's self contained, one bedroom cottages is a must. Located approximately 100 metres from the pub, the cottages overlook the vineyards and sweeping coastline and is wonderfully peaceful. With the only other inhabitants the families of kangaroos that wander through the surrounding 165 acres of private, native woodland, it is the perfect place to relax and win[e] down.
