Pinot Palooza

Gastrology recently attended Pinot Palooza, Australia’s largest annual Pinot Noir festival, as guests of festival partner and producer of premium sparkling wines, Jansz Tasmania.

The event was an unbridled celebration of Australia’s and New Zealand’s finest Pinot Noirs with general entry including unlimited tastings of this captivating varietal. The diversity, complexity and quality on show was mind blowing. We also enjoyed a one-on-one tasting of Jansz Tasmania’s Premium Rosé and Vintage Rosé, which are made from Pinot Noir utilising the same traditional methods used to produce Champagne - cheekily referred to by Jansz as “Methode Tasmanoise”.

Our VIP tickets also included a one-on-one burgundy tasting with a Pinot Palooza sommelier, Michael, allowing us to taste wines from the spiritual home of Pinot Noir. Based on the wine styles we preferred, Michael curated the rest of our tasting experience. This took all the difficulty out of choosing which of the hundreds of wines on offer to taste, and added to the experience immensely – we definitely recommend purchasing VIP tickets.

Overall, a spectacular event for lovers of this enigmatic grape and we eagerly anticipate the return of Pinot Palooza next year.
