Melbourne expat Janet DeNeefe and proud owner of Ubud’s renowned Casa Luna, will be presenting her famous Balinese home-style cooking at the historical Tolarno Eating House & Bar in St Kilda. The venue that is known for its bohemian interior and iconic Mirka Mora murals, is set to transform into a traditional Balinese Warung offering a uniquely crafted two-course meal for guests on Friday March 23 and Saturday March 24.

Janet DeNeefe started Casa Luna 26 years ago. She is also the founder of the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival and the Ubud Food Festival. The Casa Luna Cooking School, also established in 1992, provides insights on the secrets of traditional Balinese cooking. In 2003, Janet authored a lifestyle recipe book, called Fragrant Rice, which explores her continuing love affair with Bali’s culture.

Janet will be dishing up her Balinese favourites, Babi Guling, suckling pig, with braised leaves and crispy trimmings and Betutu Ayam, roast chicken with snake beans and roasted coconut all served with steamed rice and lashings of sambal.

Guests will also be warmed with a dessert that includes a trio of black rice, sago pudding with pandan leaves and warm caramel banana. In between bites, Janet will share her secrets, with images, of her favourite Warungs along with performances of traditional Indonesian music.
