Melbourne’s favourite pizza institution, Ladro, is celebrating turning 15 by checking in to Grand Hyatt Melbourne with a short-term residency at the hotel’s signature restaurant, Collins Kitchen.
Taking up residency until Thursday 29 November 2018, “Ladro Checks In” will feature a specially curated Italian menu created together by the Ladro and Collins Kitchen culinary teams.
Along with the classic wood-fire pizza flavours that first put Ladro on the map, guests can also indulge in some authentic and moreish Italian dishes.
We loved the dish of pumpkin gnocchi – Think pillow soft homemade gnocchi served with luxurious brown butter sauce and crispy fried sage for a counterpoint of crunch. It was absolutely stunning. For something heartier the veal osso bucco is like a hug from nonna. Full of flavour and falling off the bone, it is served atop rich smoked polenta.
A visit to “Ladro Checks In” would of course be incomplete without one of their amazing pizzas. The stand out, must-try is new pizza - Bianco E Nero. Meaning black and white in Italian, the black pizza base is made with activated charcoal and topped with burrata, San Danielle prosciutto, cherry tomatoes and dressed rocket.
Keeping true to its reputation for indulgent desserts, Collins Kitchen’s famous dessert station will also be turned into a decadent “La Gelateria” bar. Expect mouth-watering desserts including Sicilian cannoli, bomboloni Italian donuts, tiramisu and our personal favourite, Venetian Cassata tart with amaretto sponge, marzipan and royal icing.
On the drinks front, four wines on tap will also be available (Prosecco, Pinot Grigio, Rose and Sangiovese). Alternatively, we found the new tablet form wine list to be particularly exciting – scroll through Collins Kitchen’s impressive wine list by selecting from various criteria including grape varietal and price point.
