Continuing to challenge the boundaries of Australian whisky, Starward released its newest whisky yesterday, Two-Fold, to the Australian market. This whisky - entirely matured in Australian wine barrels, is made using Australian wheat and malted barley to create an everyday-whisky at an approachable price point of $65.
Gastrology were privileged to attend the exciting unveiling of Two-Fold at the Starward Distillery where guests were treated with a tour of the distillery, an intimate tasting of the Starward whisky range as well as a decadent dinner by Cumulus Up. Cumulus Up was the perfect partner for the event. The purity and simplicity of the dishes at Cumulus Up is matched by the commitment of sourcing the finest ingredients in Victoria. Founder David Vitale explained, “I started Starward with a simple vision; offer the world a distinctly Australian whisky unshackled from tradition.” The result is a whisky that embraces the city’s ‘four seasons in a day’ temperature swings, is matured in Australian red wine barrels and is made using Australian grains. It is truly a thoroughly modern Australian whisky that pushes the boundaries of what whisky can be.
Two-Fold is their next step in that ambitious direction - a double grain whisky that is entirely matured in our signature Australian red wine barrels. A union of Australia’s two most quintessential grains; Wheat and Malted Barley, coming together to create a flavour-forward whisky that is filled with rich complexities driven by the power of two grains. The nose is filled with spiced vanilla and fresh tropical fruit. Whilst the palate is flowing with hints of Fuji apples, roasted pineapple, lightly toasted oak, and a soft tannic finish.
This is a whisky for any occasion - neat by the fire, on ice to celebrate or mixed up in a perfect Manhattan.
To celebrate the launch of Two-Fold, Starward is collaborating with the culinary legends at Cumulus Up to create “Two-Fold Thursdays”, a collaboration and pairing of Australian whisky and food. Two-Fold Thursday’s will run exclusively at Cumulus Up throughout the month of November, with a perfect pairing of Starward Two-Fold Orchard Spritz cocktails with Duck waffle, foie gras and Starward Two-Fold whisky jelly for $20.
