Taxi Kitchen's Showstopper menu

Perched upon the Yarra River and on the fringe of Federation Square, Taxi Kitchen has long been a Melbourne culinary landmark. With its unique synergy with Victorian seafood, this restaurant has captured the essence of the region's bountiful offerings. Recently, Taxi Kitchen unveiled its Showstopper menu, a gastronomic spectacle that celebrates the very best in Victorian produce.

The culinary heritage of Taxi Kitchen is deeply rooted in the history of Melbourne's seafood trade. Going as far back as the 1800s, seafood from Queenscliff and Western Port was transported to Melbourne by train, arriving at Flinders Street. These fresh catches were then displayed at a temporary stand known as 'Fish Green,' located at the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets, before eventually moving to Flinders and Spencer Streets. For over 25 years, fishmongers sold their fresh produce at this prominent corner, creating a lasting legacy in the city's culinary history.

In honour of this historical connection to Victorian seafood, Taxi Kitchen presents its Showstopper menu, a culinary masterpiece that combines the best of land and sea. Priced at $85, this menu offers a unique mix of six delectable tastes across three courses, making it an ideal pre- or post-theatre, match, or gallery dining experience.

Executive Chef Tony Twitchett, known for his modern Australian cuisine with a distinct Asian flair, leads the culinary journey of the Showstopper menu. Guests can start their experience with natural Pacific oysters drizzled with orange and chilli ponzu and Taiwanese beef dumplings —a delightful fusion of flavours and textures. The Apollo Bay tempura rock flathead served wtih steamed panckaes, eggplant nam prik, lettuce, herbs and toasted rice offers a refreshing and bold combination.

For the main affair Roasted Western Plains pork with black bean relish, apple, spicy hoisin and wombok slaw is a harmonious blend of flavours.

To complete the culinary journey, Taxi Kitchen presents a rotating medley of petite fours that offer a decadent and delicious conclusion to the meal. Each dessert is crafted with the same attention to detail and creativity as the previous courses, ensuring a memorable and satisfying dining experience.

Taxi Kitchen's Showstopper menu pays tribute to Melbourne's rich history of seafood trading and its vibrant local produce. With the restaurant's commitment to using the finest ingredients from Victorian waters and land, along with Executive Chef Tony Twitchett's modern Australian cuisine with an Asian twist, diners are in for a treat that captures the essence of this vibrant city's culinary scene.
