Tetsu Jin

Taking inspiration from a retro robot famous in Japan, restaurateur David Loh has recently launched his latest restaurant, ‘Tetsujin’ on the 4th floor of Melbourne’s Emporium Shopping Centre.

A unique new concept, Tetsujin offers three different Japanese dining styles and eatery sections.

The venue seats 230 diners and is perched above Little Burke Street with enormous 10 meter, floor to ceiling windows. Light infused with a contemporary look and feel, Tetsu Jin channels a Japanese ‘urban cool’.

Diners select from Robata barbecue grills, Izakaya shared plates and a Sushi Train, where diners can choose from an appetising variety of fresh gourmet sushi at only $3.30 per piece.

Executive Chef and Business Partner, Tomohiro Suzuki has created a menu which incorporates traditional Japanese classics, but with a contemporary interpretation. From Hot Pots to Ramen to nourishing soups and nutritious salads, the Tetsujin menu is extensive.

We loved test driving the Robata barbeque grill. We indulged in the "Grand Set". The pride of Tetsu Jin, the set comprised a selection of ‘cook your own’ meats including Soft Shell Crab Salad, Deep fried soft shell crab with special dressing, Salmon Sashimi, Thinly sliced salmon, Wagyu Rump, Wagyu Rib Finger, Wagyu Scotch Fillet, Wagyu Oyster Blade, King Prawn, Scallop, Mussel, Baby Abalone and dessert.

On the drinks front, the glamorous bar serves an extensive selection of Sake, Japanese Whisky and a Beer tower. A selection of cocktails also feature alongside their dedicated signature watermelon cocktail.

Tetsu Jin is David’s Loh’s 7th restaurant following on from the successes of ShopHouse Kitchen, Dessert Story, Rice Workshop, Food Republik and Yokozuna. David attributes the success of his establishments to a penchant for consistency and star ingredients.
