Williamstown's favourite pizzeria, 3 GRAINS Roman Artisan Pizza prides itself on its Roman-style pizza with a healthy twist. The idea behind their pizzas is that they're light, low in calories but high in taste. The secret to the 3 GRAINS pizza base is a handcrafted combination of 3 ancient grain flours including spelt (farro), soft wheat flour and whole grain (integrale) flours that are ground down from their natural whole grain form, so the flour includes elements of the grain’s organically occurring germs and endosperm to create a pizza base that is light, high in fibre, easy to digest and most importantly, delicious.
The result is a fluffy base that has a wonderful crispness and is gentle on your tummy. A traditional Roman slow ferment is then employed and finally finished with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
There is also a gluten free base option (made in-house as well) which is made from flaxseed, white sorghum and rice flour.
We were delighted by an invitation from 3 GRAINS to eat our way through their menu.
The Caprese was a stunning start to our meal. The Bufala di Parma mozzarella was feather-light and delicate but yet rich and full of flavour and was further enhanced by the flavours of the fresh basil and tomato. 3 GRAINS pasta al pesto was similarly delicious. We loved the al dente pasta laced with their stunning house made basil, walnuts and pine nuts pesto.
As expected, the pizzas at 3 GRAINS were the stars of the show. The salsiccia pizza was delicious. Sat atop a thin layer of tomato sugo were generous layers of delicious fior di latte, juicy pork and fennel sausages, porcini mushrooms and parmesan. These ingredients did justice to the pizza base which was thin, light and flavoursome.
The 3 GRAINS patate & tartufo pizza was a stunner and had us fighting for the last morsel. A vegetarian treat that is delicious enough to delight any carnivore, it was an umami laden amalgamation of creamy fior di latte, potato, 3 GRAINS truffle paste and EVOO.
Our evening concluded on a sweet note with pistachio gelato boasting a dark chocolate ganache centre coated in pistachio nuts. Simple but also simply beautiful.
3 GRAINS have firmly established themselves as maestros of the Williamstown pizza scene. Customers of 3 GRAINS are rewarded with high quality wood fired pizzas packed with garden fresh ingredients.
