La Scala, Bangkok
/

Tucked within the refined elegance of The Sukhothai Bangkok, La Scala is a dining destination that celebrates the vibrant flavours and sun-kissed charm of the Italian Mediterranean coast. Recently reopened with renewed energy, the restaurant invites diners to embark on a culinary adventure that combines innovation, tradition and the freshest seasonal produce.
On our visit, we chose to explore the à la carte menu — a decision that quickly proved wise. The meal began with Crema di Broccolini, a velvety green soup lifted by kale hummus and tangy goat’s cheese feta, finished with crushed pistachios and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. It was as beautiful to look at as it was satisfying to eat, a gentle nod to coastal freshness.
Next came La Genovese e Gamberi, fusilloni di Gragnano pasta coated in a fragrant basil pesto, with plump tiger prawns and a scattering of pine nuts adding both richness and texture. The balance of flavours — herbaceous, nutty, and slightly sweet from the prawns — was impeccable.
The standout of the evening, however, was the Pollo alla Diavola. A whole spring chicken was roasted beautifully. The meat impossibly tender, was served alongside soft polenta and decadent truffled mushrooms. It’s the kind of dish that makes you slow down and savour every bite.
La Scala’s pizzas also deserve special mention. The Truffled Contadina arrived on a perfectly blistered crust, its white mozzarella base topped with black truffle carpaccio, speck ham, pork salsiccia, and a medley of truffled mushrooms — a decadent, earthy delight that disappeared far too quickly.
Dessert was the signature “La Scala” Tiramisu, a dreamy layering of mascarpone cream and espresso-soaked sponge infused with amaretto syrup. We also couldn’t resist a scoop of their pistachio gelato, which delivered an intense nutty flavour and a creamy finish — the perfect final flourish.
With its seamless blend of contemporary creativity and Mediterranean soul, La Scala is more than just a meal; it’s a journey. Whether you’re sharing dishes with friends or savouring a romantic dinner for two, this is one Bangkok dining experience worth lingering over.
