Vegie Bar is an iconic Melbourne institution which boasts a stunning selection of vegan and vegetarian food and drink options. Located in the heart of Fitzroy, these guys have been thriving for nearly 30 years, way back before veganism was cool.
We loved tasting our way through the menu and opted for their various vegan options. We loved the every dish was nutrient dense without a single sacrifice to flavour.
Our top pick from the menu is the Sung choi bao. A beautiful sharing plate featuring a luscious combination of organic tofu, king oyster mushrooms and mock 'chicken' served with a fresh apple and Asian herb salad, baby cos lettuce cups and lime.
The Jack “fish” tacos were similarly delicious. Fluffy La Tortillaria tacos were topped with crispy jackfruit fillets which mimicked the texture of fish, a refreshing black bean and sweet corn salsa, coriander a luxurious wasabi aioli.
For something fresher and lighter, the soba noodle bowl is a great option. Think slippery organic green tea soba noodles tossed with smoked tofu, wasabi cashews, avocado, shiitake mushrooms, kimchi, arame, cucumber, spinach, pickled ginger and pomegranate.
Vegie Bar certainly lives up to its ethos of providing planet friendly, environmentally conscious dishes that nourish the mind, body and soul.
